Currently, the Souls Journey band consists of Marshal (guitar and vocals) and Dena (ukelele, vocals, hand percussion, and bass). In this new year, we chose to focus more on the foundation of the Souls Journey sound in order to sharpen our performance as a dynamic duo.
Souls Journey continues to be “in the house” once a month at the newly named Sacramento Center for Spiritual Living, one of our favorite community-minded venues in town. Come join us on a Sunday morning at the charming Chataqua Playhouse in Carmichael. There are plenty of theater seats for everyone with new ones that were added last year.
And this spring, our new friend, Jon O’Brien, began joining us for various gigs on his stand-up bass. Way cool to have him thumping the bass and singing, as well! We’re blessed to have his musical spirit and texture added to the Souls Journey mix.
Currently, the Souls Journey band consists of Marshal (guitar and vocals), Dena (ukelele, vocals, hand percussion, and bass), and Bruce (violin, flute, bass, vocals, and keyboard).

We’ve led two sacred singing circles this year; one at Piccolo Pastures in Elk Grove and one at Sunlight of the Spirit in mid-town Sacramento.
And, we are excited to be included in the line up for the upcoming (and first) Transcendence Festival at Camp Pollock during the weekend of October 3-6th. The Souls Journey musical collective will convene in the sacred singing circle in the Devotional Lodge amidst the great grandmother trees on Sunday, October 5th at 5:30 p.m.

Greetings fellow Souls,
We’re grateful for the new opportunities for growth that came our way in 2013! We had changes in our band lineup and since November, Dena and Marshal, have been holding their own as the core of Souls Journey, the band.
Here are the highlights of 2013.
*Continued playing at CSG, Carmichael on a monthly basis and presented a number of World Premiere original songs written by Marshal and Dena.
* Led a kiirtan by special invitation for the Sacramento Center for Spiritual Growth in Carmichael in October for their Oneness Celebration.
* Provided music for Conscious Community at Piccolo Pastures in Elk Grove for their Thanksgiving celebration.
In the coming year of 2014, Dena and I look forward to continuing our musical discipline of writing new songs together. At this point in time, we have co-written 11 songs and have begun visioning our first Souls Journey music CD.
Marshal and Dena
Today, the band played our first gig in the New Year at the Sacramento Center for Spiritual Growth in Carmichael. The new spiritual leader, Molly Cate, was present. We presented a world premiere of an old gospel tune reworked by the lovely and irrepressible, Dena. It’s called If Anybody Asks You, Who You Are. I played electric guitar with the band for the first time and used the Wah pedal. People were singing along and head bopping, having a good time. That always makes all the work worth it. I played acoustic guitar on our second song, an original tune written by myself and my nephew, James. It’s called Brand New Day and I played in honor of the new year. Bruce played a ripping good bass solo section on that one.
Greetings fellow Souls,
We’re grateful to all of our group members for all of their hard work, perseverance,
presence of mind and heart, and making it happen in 2012! We all grew a lot together in our first year as a performing band.
Here are the highlights of the last year.
*We played four non-church gigs (three out of town and one in town.)
a) Birthday party for Doug Von Koss (Mr. Noah Project) in Sebastopol, CA (Feb. 2012)
b) Moving to Hawaii party for Allen Trux in Carmichael, CA (March 2012)
c) 1st Souls Journey in the Sierra Music Festival in Fairplay, CA(September 2012)
d) New Year’s Eve party at the Three Forks Grange Hall in Mt. Aukum (December 2012)
*We continued playing at CSG, Carmichael on a monthly basis and added playing at CSL, Davis a good handful of times.
*We went into the recording studio (Audio West – a big thank you to Ed Etzel0 and completed three songs that have been shared with our growing fan base through our website.
*We presented a number of World Premiere original songs from George, Marshal, and Dena at our performances, as well as some tunes spirit-sized by the band as a collective.
Wow, what a year! Well done, Souls Journey! Dena and I look forward to more exciting developments and adventures for the band in this new year of possibilities.
